Hi friends! One of my students is a massive Metallica fan and they wanted me to help them learn how to play Enter Sandman.
The sad truth is, I had never learned it! So I went to the task of figuring it out.
At first, I only used my ear and I figured out the exact notes (down to the frequency) and the exact order and progression, including the rhythm.
I made the video and posted it to the Facebook page. But I immediately hat to remove it.
Following my post I watched Metallica playing it live and I happened to notice that A) his hand looked a different way than mine and B) he played it on one different string than I had.
So I immediately removed the video and went to task relearning what I thought I had learned.
It turns out, I had it right! But not in the way James Hetfield was playing it!
So I reworked the hand frame and I present it to you here today. I also included “my way” as the notes, progression and rhythm are identical, I simply prefer playing the “G” note on the open G.
I hope everyone finds this helpful! If you did, feel free to subscribe to the YouTube channel (Musilesson), hit the notification bell and follow us on Facebook. See you in the next guide!
